why should WE care?

...about education in Africa

Hi All

I am in the process of reading the splendid book of Greg Mortenson - '3 Cups of Tea'. The man is a real inspiration in the work that he has achieved in building schools in Pakistan and with so much of his own personal sacrifice. Those of you who have heard of Greg will know what i am talking about, but those of you would dont i recommend you look up his work. Certainly in the field that i am in in supporting education and beginning to look at building schools in Africa, it is great to read about Gregs work.

In his book he quotes Mother Theresa and i wanted to share that with you. It is a wonderful thought from Mother Theresa and those who are involved in Non Profit, Charity and in supporting education around the world should consider this when times are hard for you and when people are not so complimentary or supportive of your work. Mother Theresa said that supporting education was only a drop in the ocean. But without that drop, the ocean would be worse off for not having it.

Remember Mother Theresa and remember Greg Mortenson and remember what 1 person can actually achieve!

Greg Mortenson was a climber and he was climbing K2 when he got into trouble. A pakistan man led him from the mountain and he ended up in a village where he saw cared for until he was well enough to leave. He left promising to build them a school and not only has he actually returned and built them a school, he has built another 55 schools in Pakistan.

He is very inspirational and the book is so well written. I recommend the book to anyone who is interested in supporting education and it just goes to show what 1 person actually can do.
